Waqfs in the kazâs of Leskovac, Prokuplje, Kursumlija and Pirot in 18th and 19th century

The topic of this work are muslim pious endowments, waqfs, introduced by Ottomans on the Balkans. most intensive Muslim endowment activity territory nowadays Southeast Serbia was noticed after final Ottoman conquest in middle 15th century to end 16th century. aforementioned period is also time when reshaping existing Christian settlements into predominantly Muslim, ones mainly took place. sources basis which institute presented, new, unresearched so far and kept archives Directorate State Archives Presidency Republic Turkey Istanbul. source presents 1839 census endowments whose translation comments given attachment hereby. In paper, I compared waqfs from earlier with 1839. way, able determine changes that have occurred meantime, i.e. survived kaz?s Leskovac, Prokuplje, Kursumlija Pirot until compiling document. According determined at there were a total 70 area today's Serbia, 36 active kaz?, 10 Prokuplje 21 Leskovac kaz? three kaz?. These consist real property, including various facilities religious, educational, public, communal structure.
